One of the best playgrounds in town is built on top of the underground
Moscone Center and it
looks nothing like what it's supposed to, which works to its advantage.
Instead of swing sets and rings,
The Rooftop Playground has some elaborate slides that are as much fun climbing up as tunneling down. There is a fun climbing structure, a large xylophone, sand pits, and grassy lawns.
The rest of the playground is basically
a huge rubber pit. The surface is so spongy and cool it makes kids feel they can leap tall buildings in a single bound - or at least as if they won't hurt themselves in the process of trying.
There is also a learning garden connected to the playground.
The playground is right next to the
carousel, the
ice-skating rink,
bowling alley, and the high-tech
Zeum arts center. The playground makes a great starting point for a day at
Yerba Buena Gardens.
