The Textile Museum is an international center for the exhibition, study, collection, and preservation of the textile arts. The Museum explores the role that textiles play in the daily and ceremonial life of individuals the world over, with special attention given to textiles of the Near East, Asia, Africa, and the indigenous cultures of the Americas. The Museum presents exhibitions of historical and contemporary quilts, and fiber art, and has a permanent collection of more than 17,000 textiles and rugs.
Housed in two historic buildings in the Kalorama neighborhood, visitors enter The Textile Museum through the former home of the Museum's founding family, which was designed by John Russell Pope in 1913. Since 1925, the Museum's galleries have been located in an adjacent building; large gardens behind the buildings are open to the public during Museum hours.
Introductory tours of the Museum and current exhibitions are offered September through May every Saturday and Sunday at 1:30pm, and the first Wednesday of the month at 1pm. No reservations are required.
