about The Urban Farm at Stapleton:

The Urban Farm (TUF) is a 23-acre community farm and environmental education facility located in Stapleton's Sand Creek Greenway. It offers a wide array of programs in horsemanship, animal husbandry, gardening, conservation, stream reclamation, and land cultivation. The facility is open to the public Saturday mornings from 10am to 1pm and at additional times as arranged.

The indoor teaching barn hosts numerous classes, and kids love the Children's Garden with a greenhouse, as well as the horse paddocks and small livestock enclosures.

TUF's signature program, Embracing Horses, is a very popular program in which children (ages five-18) learn to care for and ride horses. A skills-based program, children progress through a variety of levels of riding and horsemanship. The program includes opportunities for kids to ride once a week, as well as opportunities for youngsters who are interested in becoming accomplished equestriennes and in competing at local, regional, or even national levels.

TUF also offers several 4-H clubs in the state, making it possible for city kids to participate in traditional livestock projects.

TUF offers tours to classrooms; customized tours can also be arranged. Birthday parties are a big hit here: Kids can spend two hours taking a farm tour, hay ride, and pony ride. Parties start at $175 and are best suited to children ages four to nine.

I have been to The Urban Farm three times on field trips with my kids. It was a great experience every time. It is a great program for kids and offers them an experience that they may otherwise not receive. It is so much more than a petting zoo. We are planning on visiting the farm as a family next weekend. They also offer volunteer opportunities for children. Again, a great concept to have a farm for all to visit and enjoy.

I am so sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with The Farm. I hope you will consider coming back.

In September we were beginning a complete makeover so we were a mess at that time. Come back to see for yourself. As for safety, it remains our top priority. In 12 years we have never had a child injured during a fieldtrip or birthday party. In our riding classes, we haven't had an injury in over 5 years. Our safety record is exemplary and our insurance company can attest to that. I personally answer all info@theurbanfarm.org emails and try to respond within 24 hours. With huge cuts in funding to nonprofits we can no longer afford to have a receptionist answer the phone, but we do check messages each day and endeavor to return calls within 48 hours.
With 4000 children visiting The Farm each year, it is a fun, educational, and safe place for children and families. On average, children in our programs have been involved for two or more years. Teens on average have been involved five or more years.

While the concept of The Urban Farm is great, in reality, at least for riding, this is the most disorganized activity I have ever signed my child up for. They never answer their phones and never responded to any e-mails I sent so there was no way to get any information except from the website. The one time someone did finally answer the phone, they left me on hold for over 15 minutes while they had a casual conversation with someone else - I could hear them through the phone. They also mixed up our enrollment information so my child ended up being enrolled in the wrong class. Unless you have all the time in the world to chase these people down, don't bother.
