about This Is the Place Heritage Park:

This Is The Place where in July 1847, after a 1300 mile trek, Brigham Young and his party first viewed the Salt Lake Valley and declared it home. Exactly 100 years later a monument to Young, the pioneers, mountain men, Spanish explorers, Native Americans, and others was erected atop a 60-foot base overlooking the valley to signify the event. The park is now also home to a visitor's center and Heritage Village.

The visitor's center houses the Monument Cafe, a gift shop, and the admission ticket sales office. A 20-minute History of the Settlement video gives a quick explanation of the significance of this park.

Heritage Village is a living history community that represents Utah's pioneer past. The 46 homes, stores, churches, and other buildings that were essential to the pioneers have been meticulously restored or recreated. Guests can try their pioneering skills at churning butter, making candles, and hands-on crafts for kids. Visitors can also watch a blacksmith and a furniture maker hard at work. A Pioneer Playground, a petting corral, pony rides, and a replica train keep the young ones entertained.

Three activities are included in the price of admission to Heritage Village; choose from take-home crafts, pony rides, and mini-train rides. Additional activities or rides cost $1 each. Admission to the monument is free; the monument is accessible daily from dawn to dusk.

Additional summer offerings at the park include day camps for children ages six to 11, four-day apprenticeships for teens ages 14 & up (learn how to be a blacksmith, cabinet maker, or a spinner). Check the park's website for dates and pricing.

Birthday party packages are available for children ages three to 11. Choose either a Bronco Breakfast party or a Pioneer Tea Party. Check the website for pricing and details. Reservations are required.
