The Tony Dapolito Recreation Center (formerly the Carmine Street Rec Center) offers numerous free programs including swim classes and an afterschool program that has athletic, art, and academic programming. Holiday, Winter, and Spring Recess camps are also offered. The Center's three-week summer camp is available for a nominal fee.
The popular outdoor pool, open during summer months, is free and very pleasant when it's not too crowded (avoid it on the hottest days). There are lifeguards on duty and lap lanes in the deep end. Swimmers need to bring a lock for the locker; bathing suits are required in the pool area.
No food or toys are permitted by the pool. The indoor pool is open from September through June and is available to members.
Other facilities include a soccer field, five handball courts, a weight room, a gym, a Computer Resource Center, an indoor track, and an athletic field.
Rec Center Membership can be used at any of the city's centers. Centers with indoor pools are $75 for adults and those without indoor pools are $50 for adults. Children, 17 and under, are free; seniors are $10.
