Toppers' logo proudly proclaims "Quality Toppings - Quality Pizza" and we don't disagree, but we think the real deal is the casual, fun atmosphere and low priced meal options at this Ventura County chain.

The pizza is good, and toppings are plentiful, from pepperoni to pineapple to roasted red peppers.

The salad bar is full of crisp veggies, and it's so good we're sorry Toppers policy is "one trip only." (The good news: the salad bar is priced accordingly.)

Toppers' sandwiches offer a welcome choice for those who are tired of pizza and salad - we especially like Turkey & Bacon, and the Vegetarian.

Several TVs on every wall (most often tuned to sporting events) give kids a reason to stay at the table long enough to eat. When they do run off, it's probably to the small game room, where a few quarters will give them lots of time to play.

And while they do, their parents just might be able to relax - with an import or micro-brewed beer, or a glass of wine.

Toppers also strives to be part of the communities in which they're located; talk to a local manager to arrange a party, group function, or fund raiser.
