The Treasure Valley Institute for Children's Arts, locally known as TrICA, is an organization offering arts programs for children. Current programs include the Children's Dance Institute, the Intergenerational Choir, and the Open Door Children's Theatre. As renovations to TrICA's building allows, the organization plans to offer additional programs, including the Heart Song Music Studio, an outdoor children's garden, a children's library, studio space for visual arts, puppet shows, storytelling, and cooking.
The Intergenerational Choir meets once a week during the school year. It is open to all ages, from youngsters to the elderly. The choir performs twice each year for the public.
The Open Door Children's Theatre partners with the Treasure Valley YMCA to offer summer music theater performance camps. No auditions are required, and everyone gets a chance to shine during the public performance. After School Players is an outreach program offered at local schools. Participants learn the basics of singing, dancing, and acting as they prepare a full musical production.
The Children's Dance Institute offers a variety of dance programs for youth, including Dance Rascals (an outreach program for preschools, daycares, kindergarten classes, elementary schools, and afterschool programs), LEAP Troupe (for performance-ready dancers ages eight to 12; performs at various events throughout the year), Dancing through School (an in-school program in which participants prepare a show that is performed for the rest of the school), Dance with Me (a parent/child class for two and three year olds), Ballerina Princess (offers ballet vocabulary, dress-up, and movement for children ages three to eight), Summer Performance Camps (one-week camps that prepare participants for a show at the Downtown Boise Farmers' Market), the Cultural Respect Program (children are exposed to a variety of world cultures through dance; free of charge for low income at-risk preschoolers and kindergarteners), and Family Dance Parties (dance parties for children and parents in a club-like atmosphere).
