Trinity is a wonderful co-ed school with a very inclusive culture. Some parents see admittance to the lower school as a means to getting into Ivy League colleges due to the high attrition rate of HS graduates to Ivy Leagues. Be aware that when you consider the school for your 4 or 5 old, that the child may be a much different person by the time that they are 14 and entering HS. The class size nearly doubles from 60 to close to 120 students in HS when many kids, who would also be accepted to the top performing high schools in the city, get admitted. It is best advised that you look at lower schools based on what you like about the school and how your child will fit into the school. Trinity is a beautiful school with wonderful facilities including three connected buildings which house each of the three schools (Lower School K-4, Middle School 5-8, and High School 9-12), a turf the size of a football field on the buildings' roof, and a swimming pool. The kids begin taking swim classes in Kindergarten. The class size in Kindergarten thru 8th grade varies between 15 - 20 students with 2 teachers in each class through 4th grade. The majority of the families are wonderful to be around -- as with many private schools. And, the curriculum is engaging and challenges children to think. The philosophy of the school is to learn through doing as opposed to sitting for lectures or merely reading a book. Trinity is an Episcopalian school and the children do have "chapel" once a week through 12th grade. However, a child of any religious background should feel completely at home at the school. Through the chapels, the children learn about the tenets and traditions of every religion as well as how to be decent civilians and to have respect for all. The chapels may be one reason that Trinity students receive high acclaim for being "nice kids" (in addition to the lessons that they receive at home, of course). Trinity also has a very strong sibling policy as the school views itself as a place for families. That said, even the siblings have to be able to perform well on the admissions test to be accepted, however.

If interested in taking a look at the school for your rising Kindergartner, call for an application right after Labor Day otherwise, you may be too late. Over 600 applications are received each year and the admissions staff can only interview and tour so many families.

Good luck in your search and remember to look for a school that is good for your child now -- not your high school child who doesn't yet exist.

My son went to Trinity for a year from age 1 yr and 4 months. He's a little on the shy side and doesn't take to things too quickly but he really didn't have any problem transitioning (not so in the case of his next school) and learned much about interacting with other children. There were 9 children in his classroom and 3 full-time staff. The place was spotless, cheerful and had lots of interesting toys and educational games. The art projects were also amazing. I also found the adminitrative staff very friendly and helpful. Parents too were friendly and laid back. Overall, our experience with Trinity was very positive.
