Trout Lake Nature Center and wildlife preserve encompasses 230 acres on the north edge of Eustis. The area, a wetlands-forest habitat bordering Trout Lake, is home to an array of native flora and fauna.
The facility features a 1,000-foot boardwalk extending into Trout Lake, interpretive trails, a museum/classroom center, and an environmental education center housing a meeting room, library, and gift shop.
The center offers educational programs for public, private, and home-schooled children, as well as groups such as scouts, 4-H groups, boys and girls club, and others. (Programs fit into the state's Sunshine State Standards.) The center also hosts birthday parties. Contact the center for more details on group programs.
The Center is open to the general public at no charge, three days a week from October to April. In addition, there are periodic educational meetings on subjects ranging from photography to birdwatching, and several local organizations conduct their meetings at the Center.
