Designed by New York architect Edward Larrabee Barnes, the
Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Cultural Center opened to the public on November 28, 1990. The facility includes approximately 14,000 square feet of exhibition space, as well as an open-air courtyard which is used for outdoor performances, members' openings, movie premiere parties, and community events.
UCLA assumed management of the Museum on April 1, 1994.
Hammer education programs serve a wide range of audiences, from groups with highly specialized interests, to general visitors and school classes.
The Gallery
Bookstore offers a remarkable array of books, jewelry, prints, posters, children's literature, and gifts. The shop is open during regular Museum hours. Members of the Museum and Friends of the Graphic Arts receive
discounts. An elevator to the galleries and the garden courtyard provides easy access for wheelchairs.
Membership makes multiple visits cheaper and easier. A $45 active membership will grant museum admission to two adults and all children under 18, as well as discounts at the shops, advance notice of special events, and a handful of other perks. Call 310.443.7050 for information.
Closed Mondays, July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
