about Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site:

The 9.65-acre Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site is the locale where the eighteenth American president, Ulysses S. Grant, first met his future wife, Julia Dent; the site encompasses White Haven, Dent's family home, which later became the home of the married couple. Free interpretive tours of the family's Main House are offered daily every 30 minutes.

The site also includes several historic structures, including an icehouse and a chicken house, all restored to their 1875 appearances. The natural environment features several hundred trees and serves as home for wildlife such as raccoon, woodchuck, rabbit, squirrel, red fox, and an assortment of birds.

tips:

Tickets for the Main House are free, but time-specific "calling cards" are required and are available at the Visitor Center. Advance reservations are strongly recommended for groups of 10 or more.

getting there:

From I-270, exit at Gravois Road - Hwy 30 (Exit 3) and turn east toward St. Louis; follow Gravois Road 3.3 miles and turn left on Grant Road; site entrance is less than a mile ahead on right.
