about Underwood Family Farms:

Visitors can pick their own vegetables throughout the year at picturesque, 40-acre Underwood Family Farms, which has two locations in Ventura County: one in Somis, and this one in Moorpark. The two locations feature different crops, from pumpkins to blueberries to Christmas trees, so it's best to call ahead and find out where the most action is at a given time of year.

Kids enjoy the chance to see, and be part of, a real working farm, complete with tractors and farm animals. A vegetable stand and plant center are also available for anyone who would like to buy fresh vegetables or plants without getting dirty! The real highlight of the year here, however, is the fabulous Fall Harvest Festival, where guests can pick their own pumpkins and weave their ways through corn mazes throughout October.

The Farm Animal Center provides a positive, educational and fun farm animal experience. Kids can brush a goat, feed pigs, or hug a pony. For children who are over age one (and under 100 lbs), the ponies are also available for riding for a small fee. A moonbounce, fun hill, wooden play train, fire truck, and trike trail are also available.

Birthday Parties cost $330 for up to 15 kids and include a wagon ride around the farm, unlimited pony rides, moonbounce, caterpillar tunnel, grooming corral, and trike trail. Party guests are also invited to play at the animal center and in numerous grassy areas on the farm. Food and cake are not included in the price of the party; Dominoes delivers pizza to the farm for $12.99/pizza, and Underwood can provide a farm cake for an additional cost of $24.99-$34.99. Parents are responsible for clean-up, or are charged an additional $50.

tips:

During October, visit after lunch to avoid school groups during the week, or - better yet - bring a picnic lunch to enjoy under one of the lovely shade trees.

getting there:

Take the 101 North, then go north on the 23. Exit on Tierra Rejada Road and turn left. The first intersection is Sunset Valley Road. Make a left, and the farm is a few hundred yards down the road on your left.
