About Union Station

The station reopened in its present form in 1988 with shops, restaurants, and movie theaters occupying the original building, and an Amtrak terminal at the back. Today Union Station is again one of Washington's busiest and best-known places, visited by over 29 million people each year.

There are two levels of concourses, each lined with stores whose names you're sure to recognize. You'll find specialty boutiques, fashion and gift stores, shops offering Washington souvenirs, and much, much more.

For a tasteful break from shopping, enjoy a meal at one of the fine restaurants throughout the Station, including America and Johnny Rockets, or (more to the point, with children!) visit the food court on the lower level with hundreds of delicious choices. A state-of-the-art, nine screen cinema complex is located on the lower level, too.

Getting There

The Station is easily accessible on Metro's Red Line. The Union Station parking garage is open 24 hours. All Union Station stores, restaurants, and the Information Desk validate two hours of parking for $1.
