About UP WITH KIDS! Musical Theatre Academy
UP WITH KIDS offers students weekly, one-hour classes and instruction in singing, dancing, and acting. Kids are encouraged to read books upon which the program's plays are based, then throughout the school year the children learn and rehearse songs, dances, and acting segments. Individual parts are cast in the latter part of the year and a show is performed, starring the children. Each child plays a named, speaking part in the show, and when the show is over, each child receives an Oscar statuette at the UP WITH KIDS Academy Awards.
Besides the school-year program, UP WITH KIDS also offers Summer Drama Camps, week-long camps during which students rehearse daily to perform a show at the end of the camp. The cost for the camps varies by county. Check the website for information on how to register.
UP WITH KIDS programs are offered at 30 locations up and down the Wasatch Front and Back (Weber County, Davis County, Summit County, Box Elder County, Salt Lake County, Tooele County, and Utah County). Check the website for a program in your community. Most of the groups meet during the afterschool hours, but a couple meet on Saturdays.
Additional children in a family receive a discount on materials fees.

Classes meet at various churches, recreation centers, schools, and music and dance studios throughout the entire valley, and in Park City.

- We have three boys and they aren't into sports. We have tried many different extra curricular activities, such as dancing, soccer, football, and basketball. Our boys haven't wanted to repeat any of these sports. We tried Up With Kids this last year and all three of them had a BLAST. They even wanted to do Summer Camp. We have one child who has been struggling academically and socially for many years. Up With Kids policy to give everyone a part with no auditions has brought new confidence to our son. He isn't left out like he has been in the past. He really feels like he is part of a team and is learning that he is really good at something. Just seeing the difference in how he preformed in High School Musical and then doing his part in Peter Pan was amazing. His confidence was up and public speaking is no big deal. My other two boys enjoy it as well and it is helping them to learn to be on a team, be a good sport, do your best, and be able to speak in front of a large crowd without fear. All this in a fun and exciting way.

She learned to break out of her shell and let her dramatic side show in public. She learned to listen, be respectful, and her confidence grew! She was fortunate to have Miss Shauna. Miss Shauna's enthusiam for acting and for the kids was trememdous. My daughter had no doubt that she was a star!
[Submitted by Leslee8/23/07 - Up With Kids has been a wonderful part of our family's lives for the past 9 years. My children have learned how to express themselves with confidence and grace. They have had a great experience with the performing arts. But they have also learned self confidence and self reliance, responsibility, and community awareness. This is the best kids program out there!
