Named for the Pacific Northwest's Sockeye Salmon, this United States Navy
attack submarine is one of the last of her kind. Launched in 1959, the non-nuclear sub served our country for 31 years in the Pacific Ocean before she was decommissioned. In 1994 the
Oregon Museum of Science and Industry brought her to Portland and began public tours. In 1998 she was renovated for preservation. When you visit, you'll learn
how a submarine works and how this vessel was home to 85 crew members - sometimes for months on end. The USS Blueback also appeared in the movie
Hunt for Red October. Recommended for children in grades three and up, submarine
slumber parties include science workshops, an
OMNIMAX movie, USS Blueback lodgings and OMSI admission for the following day. Dinner, a nighttime snack and breakfast will be served. Cost is $55 per person and one adult is required per five children. Groups of as many as 50 can be accommodated.
