about Utah Museum of Fine Arts:

The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is the only general art museum in Utah. The museum's collection spans 5,000 years of human creativity.

When families visit the UMFA, they can check out a Family Backpack to help make the visit more appealing for children ages four to 12. These free packs include hands-on activities, games, and puzzles that are related to works of art throughout the museum.

The third Saturday of each month, at an event called Third Saturday, the museum offers hands-on art studio projects. Created for children ages four to 12, the activities are designed to give kids a better understanding of artworks in the museum's collection and in special exhibitions. The museum offers free admission during this event.

The permanent collection includes American, Asian, African, Ancient, 20th Century, European, and Oceanic art.

Summer art classes are offered for children ages six to 12. Younger children (ages two to five) can get their creative juices flowing during the Mom, Dad, and Me classes. Call or check the website for dates and prices.

The museum cafe, the f/Stop, offers an assortment of pastries, hot and cold entrees, sandwiches, as well as soups and stews. There is no admission fee for the Café, and it is open on Mondays even though the museum galleries are closed. Hours are Mon-Tue, Thu-Fri 8:30am-2:30pm; Wed 8:30am-6:30pm; Sat-Sun 11:30am-2:30pm. To reach the f/Stop, call 801.585.5353.

The Museum Store sells antique, hand-thrown pottery, baskets, cards, toys, apparel, jewelry, books, glass art by local artists, mugs, and more.

Memberships are available. Members receive free admission to the permanent exhibitions, free or discounted admission to major touring exhibitions, a subscription to the UMFA newsletter, 10% discount in the Museum Store and the f/Stop Cafe, free or discounted admission to films, lectures, concerts, and special events, invitations to "Members-Only" events, advance notice of programs and events for children and families, and two guest passes to major touring exhibitions.
