Perhaps the most nationally well-known of the Front Range ski areas, Vail has 33 lifts, 193 trails, and more than 5,200 skiable acres. Kids love Adventure Ridge, located atop the Lion's Head gondola, which includes an ice rink, tubing hill, kid-sized snowmobiling, and other cool attractions.
For non-skiing children, Small World PlaySchool is available for little ones two months to six years. Reservations are required.
If skiing isn't your thing, or you just like a quieter, warmer experience, summer is a perfect season to visit. Activities include gondola rides, outdoor music performances, shopping, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

getting there:
Vail is located in the central Rocky Mountains of Colorado, just 100 miles west of Denver and just 35 miles east of Eagle. I-70 is a scenic and direct route into Vail from just about anywhere. Once in Vail, follow the signage to the Main Vail Exit (176) where most lodging, parking and access to the mountain can be found.
