The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts houses a permanent collection of more than twenty thousand works of art from almost every major world culture. Especially noteworthy are the museum's collections of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Modern and Contemporary American art; French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art and British sporting art; and The Lillian Thomas Pratt Collection of Fabergé jeweled objects. The museum's holdings of South Asian, Himalayan, and African art are among the finest in the nation.
An Educational Resource Room in the Pauley Center for Education and Outreach allows educators, children, and their families to explore new avenues of art through books, puzzles, CD-ROMs, and special programs.
Art classes are offered regularly for children and teens, as well as discovery programs for preschoolers and their parents.
