Waikiki Beach is usually crowded but it's a very nice area where one can swim, canoe, surf, and snorkel. The areas towards Diamond Head are close to expansive picnic and recreational facilities, including those of
Kapiolani Park.
The beach is basically a two-mile stretch of coast fronted by hotels and tourism related facilities, but it remains a favorite among tourists and locals alike.
Lifeguards are readily available, and if you are unaccustomed to the area, ask one to steer you to the safer areas, especially if you have children in tow.
There are
plenty of restrooms and showers along the beach, so it's easy to stretch out on the sand, go for a swim, shower, pull on a wraparound, and head to any outdoor marketplace for some retail therapy.
