The Washington Conservatory of Music (WCM) is an independent, non-profit, community music school.

Children can begin Early Childhood Music classes at two years of age (accompanied by a parent or caregiver), and can continue with general music classes through the age of seven.

WCM also offers Music Theory/Ear Training classes for ages kids ages eight and up. The courses are based on the materials of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

Private lessons are offered in a vast array of instruments, including voice and theory. Students of all levels and ages are accepted for individual lessons without an audition.

All students are encouraged to perform in regularly-scheduled recitals on Sundays throughout the year.

By Metro, take the Red Line to Friendship Heights metro stop; go to Western Avenue. RideOn Montgomery County Transit buses leave from the metro stop regularly to Westmoreland Circle.

Our children have been students (brass and woodwinds) for the past four years and we have referred many of our friends to this music school. The staff and director are very helpful, supportive, and resourceful. The teachers have a broad range of experience due to their number of professional opportunities and backgrounds as music educators. Moreover, they are familiar with the various competition requirements at the middle and high school level as well as music camps. Washington Conservatory of Music is conveniently located on Massachusetts Avenue in close proximity to Bethesda, Northwest D.C. and Chevy Chase. This is an EXCELLENT place for quality music lessons in all instruments, including voice and early childhood classes. Their administrative staff is a pleasure to deal with. Your call will be answered by a staffer who will get to know you/your child/your situation and your concerns. My children and I have taken classes from WCM for the past three years, and I've referred numerous friends who have started their children at the school. Everyone is extremely pleased with the quality of instruction. The WCM is conveniently located in Bethesda (near border with NW DC), off Massachusetts Ave by Westmoreland Circle. This school offers community concerts (either with WCM faculty, or guest artists), student recitals, and offers juries if/when appropriate. If you are thinking of piano lessons (or other instrument!), do yourself a favor and contact the WCM at (301) 320-2770. Their prices are competitive with other area institutions that offer highest quality musical instruction. That, coupled with personal attention and no-hassles (billing or scheduling) make it an enjoyable experience for everyone.
