This 1871 green space is Portland's
premier park. Nearly 130 acres are host to playing fields, tennis courts, picnic areas, and trails.
Washington Park is also home to a list of the city's best attractions: the
International Rose Test Garden, Pittock Mansion, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Japanese Garden,
Hoyt Arboretum,
Oregon Zoo,
Children's Museum, and World Forestry Center.
The
Children's Park is a huge crowd pleaser. An intricate series of catwalks, towers, slides, and bridges create an outdoor play space like none other. The structure was built in 1995, so it is entirely safe and features rubber mats and wheelchair access. You'll even find a special swing for disabled kids.
Visit in June during the
Rose Festival to catch the scent of eight thousand rose bushes in bloom. The amphitheater is a great place to catch summertime productions and concerts, and on a clear day you'll enjoy a picturesque view of Mount Hood and downtown. The
Rose Garden Store is also one of the best places in town to pick up a gift or souvenir.
