Families flying out of Atlanta, or visitors looking to stay close to downtown, should check out checking in to the Westin Atlanta Airport. Kids are greeted warmly at check-in with the Westin Kids Club goody bag that includes a rubber ducky, battery-operated nightlight, and first-aid kid. Rooms are of average size, with beds that are either king or double. The Heavenly Bed is just that, and for those traveling with infants, the Heavenly Crib is available upon request. (Our infant slept all night in it, quite comfortably!) Guestrooms have wireless Internet access (for a small fee) and bathrobes. The lobby level has a cool indoor/outdoor pool that kids enjoy swimming in, if for no other reason than to experience the temperature change when going from the indoor section to the outdoor one. Both sections feature patio tables and chairs, and towels are available en route to the pool, near the impressive fitness center. Executive Club Level rooms have access to a lounge open each day until 10pm that serves snacks and continental breakfast - a huge timesaver for families hustling to catch a flight. Staff members keep binoculars on hand so little eyes can check out the view of downtown from the floor-to-ceiling windows. And those windows are impressive out of the elevators as well, from which (on a clear day) you can see downtown, planes taking off and landing at Hartsfield Airport, and Stone Mountain. A sundries shop in the lobby carries plenty of Atlanta tourist gifts, as well as medications and toiletries that might be needed. The kids' menu in the lobby restaurant offers the usual suspects (pasta, grilled cheese, chicken fingers), but also comes with cool colored pencils and a coloring page. Take advantage of BAGS, an airport sky cab service located in the hotel lobby. For $10 a passenger, the hotel checks bags and prints boarding passes, then shuttles guests over to the airport. Parking is available in the Westin lot, and a shuttle will bring travelers back from the airport to their car. Drivers even offer a cold bottle of water on hot days to make the five minute ride even smoother. Currently, the service is offered only for Delta, but is likely to expand to other airlines. A standout of a Westin stay is the service, which we found to be exceptional. Every request was fulfilled immediately or as close to it as possible, and staff members were friendly and welcoming.
