This 150-acre natural area in St. Louis Park features marshland, woods, a lake, and restored prairie, with something new to discover in every season. The cozy Interpretive Center features live animals, interactive and educational displays, and a puppet theater.
Deer, fox, mink, and owls make their homes here, as do the bees in the apiary. Naturalists conduct excellent (and affordable) educational programs year-round, and self-guided tours are available.
Classes: Parent-chld classes are offered for ages one to five, and other offerings and special events are geared toward older kids and families.
Parties: Offered for ages four and up on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year, parties at Westwood feature an hour of indoor and outdoor naturalist-led activities (including a visit from a live animal) and time for treats and present opening in a private room. Refreshments can be brought in. Cost for up to 12 children: $70 for St. Louis Park residents; $75 for non-residents; additional children $6/each.
Summer Camps: Weeklong programs for ages four and up explore the natural world. Biking adventures, theatre experiences, and camping skills are also offered.
Volunteers: Kids entering grades seven and up can volunteer as Junior Naturalists and assist with summer camps, animal care, and special events. Numerous volunteer opportunities for parents are also offered.
