Whipper Snippers combines a children's hair salon for the downtown crowd, set in the way back of the store, with a toy store that offers a really fun and well-thought-out selection.

Kids ages newborn to tweens can get a quick cut, and parents and teens can get a trim, too. Cutting stations include two regular chairs, two "jeep" car chairs, and one hairwashing station. All have a video/tv component to distract the leery haircuttee.

The salon also offers stylin' birthday party options. Call for details.

Should a special event crop up, it's great to know there is a place to go on a Sunday to de-scruff the kids' appearance(s).

I was heartbroken to go by there today and see the place is closed, does anyone know how to find Gloria now? She is the only person to have ever cut my little guy's hair.

I read all the great reviews and even told friends about this place. They said it was ok... I went here with my 2 yr old son. The reason I went is because they cater to children; but when I went, the countergirl was extremely not happy to be there and the hair stylist was SO apathetic and rough when combing my son's hair. He started to cry immediately. Why would I travel to this location so my child can be treated worse than my neighborhood salon where I go? We walked out mid-cut.

This place is fantastic. Perfect for kids. I always bring my 3 year old son and 5 year old daughter here. The stylist, Gloria, is amazingly gentle and patient. If your looking for great haircuts and unique toys, go to Whipper Snipper.

I hate giving bad reviews but this place was really disappointing after reading all the great reviews. good toy shop but girl at counter with absolutely no interest to be there and over-burdened stylist, salon area was messy/dirty and my son left with bad and short haircut although I specifically asked for the hair to be left as long as possible - relatively cheap though. This place may have been good 2 years ago - now it is NOT - clean up your act!

We traveled to NYC from GA and had seen a write-up about W.S. in New York Mag (best haircut) and decided to go by. Our son got his first haircut there and got to pick a toy from the excellent and diverse selection they have. The haircut was easy- he watched Elmo and played with some toys...even left with a sucker and a certificate with his first hair. I will recommend that everyone I know make a stop on their next visit.

we always have our son's hair cut here--the little jeeps are wonderful, the fact that they have a large video selection for the kids to watch, the really attentive way they help the kids through (particularly their first) haircuts...it's great. Balloons at the end, and/or a lollipop. The store is first, though, and it's nearly impossible to walk through (or to wait for an appointment) without spending all the extra cash at hand. Selection is fantastic. Most recommended for kids under 5.
