For many years, the Whitmore Library served as the headquarters library in the County System; the Library Administration and support services are still located on the lower floor, as are the restrooms.
As you enter past the desk, bear right to get to the children's section. The children's section is large and open, with lots of light from the windows. Plenty of seating is around, with chairs and tables, couches, rocking animals, and even a display rack for books that has a padded bench inside. A puppet theater is near the windows for kids to entertain themselves and their parents.
A conference room called the Rainbow Room, situated right in the children's section, is home to the many storytimes Whitmore Library puts on. The library also has many other programs, including Great Reads for Girls, a book discussion group for girls ages eight to 12, and a Fantasy Book Club for teens.
All the children's books, including nonfiction, are located in the children's area. The teen fiction section is in the corner of the children's area and has comfortable couches.
Computers for internet access are centrally located near the information desk.
