about Wickham Park:

One of Brevard County's best inland outdoor locations, Wickham Park is a great stop for a casual afternoon, or a top destination for scout group camping trips.

There is really something for everyone in the large park complex. The 391-acre property includes a man-made lake, with seasonal lifeguards on duty during the summer months and during certain special events to supervise the swimming areas. Sand beaches provide a great place for kids to hang out with shovels and buckets, and splash nearby in the water.

The playground - located centrally in the park - is a fantastic play set for kids of walking age. The large play area has a number of slides, bridges, and swings. For younger kids, the set offers a number of activities - including a piano-like contraption and a small plastic alligator and frog - at the base of the set to keep them entertained.

Disc-golf is one of the most popular activities, and the course snakes throughout the park. Bring your bikes along, because there are also a number of riding trails to experience. There is also a medium sized dog park, with areas for small and large canine friends.

Camping sites - including tent and RV locations - are a popular stop for scouting groups and vacationing families. Clean restrooms are a relatively short walk from the sites.

You'll find plenty of picnic locations around the park, including covered pavilions and casual tables. Pavilions can be reserved for birthday parties and other special events - the ones closest to the playground are definitely the most popular.

The park is a popular location for special events, including everything from a Christmas light show to horse riding competitions. The complex also hosts a number of summer camps run by Brevard County's Parks and Recreation Department. Dining opportunities - like Long Doggers Grill - and entertainment at the King Center for the Performing Arts are just around the corner from the park.

tips:

The playground floor is wood chip, so - to keep you from emptying your kids' sandals of mulch every five minutes - closed-toe shoes are a must.
