The
Wings Over Washington Kite Club is a club of kite enthusiasts. Anyone - of any age - can join WOW, although you don't have to be a member to join them in some kite flying. The membership benefits include a quarterly newsletter, notification of upcoming events, use of club kites, and discounts from kite retailers. WOW generally meets the first Sunday of every month at the
Washington Monument to fly kites as a club (there are no set hours, but between 10am and 3pm is a good bet). Anyone with a kite is free to join in, and there is usually a spare kite or two to loan to those who don't have one. WOW is well known for hosting kite building workshops for kids and adults at area museums and other venues. Club members join with members of the inviting organization to assist the public in building a simple one-line sled type kite that's very easy to fly in a wide wind range. Check our calendar for upcoming workshops. You'll also see club members skills spectacularly on view at the annual Smithsonian Kite Festival each spring.
