At
Kendall Lake Winter Sports Center in
Cuyahoga Valley National Park, families can find many ways to enjoy Northeast Ohio winters. Visitors can rent snowshoes, cross-country skis (available for kids ages 7 and older), and ice skates to enjoy winter activities on and around Kendall Lake. (A valid driver's license or credit card is required as a deposit for equipment rentals.)
Sledding and tubing are permitted on the sledding hill near the shelter, off Quick Road. (Best parking for sledding hills are located at Pine Hollow, Crow Foot Gully, and Little Meadow parking lots.)
When the center is open (the snow base must be at least two inches for snowshoeing, and six inches for skiing - call 216.524.1497 for seasonal information), the knowledgeable staff keeps a fire going in the hearth - making
Kendall Lake Winter Sports Center a great spot to warm up with a hot drink and relax after an fun day of outdoor adventures.
Inside the center, visitors can also get area weather forecasts, maps, schedules of park events, and snowshoe and cross-country ski instruction. Ski instruction requires advance registration; call 216.524.1497 for information or to arrange a lesson.
Of course, Kendall Lake and its lovely shelter - also called the
Virginia Kendall area - are
open all year long. Picnickers enjoy the area, as there are grills and plenty of tables, and CVNP rangers often host group hikes on the trail around the lake.
