Parents' Picks quest to find the best
museum in San Antonio, the
Witte's permanent exhibits include dinosaur skeletons, cave drawings, wildlife dioramas, and some live animals (bees, spiders, and snakes live in the
Texas Alive exhibit).
Several historic homes have been reconstructed on the campus, which also features the very popular
H-E-B Science Treehouse, where kids can experiment with simple machines, LASERs, sound, electricity, air, and weather.
The general admission price includes the exhibits in the main building, the Witte Backyard, and the H-E-B Science Treehouse. Some special exhibits require an additional fee or surcharge.
Birthday parties may be held at the museum on Saturdays and Sundays. Or try an "after hours" party at the H-E-B Treehouse, available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Sunday, 5:30pm-7:30pm. Call 210.357.1896 to reserve a date.
Private
camp-ins for birthdays, classrooms, or scout troops are also available.
The museum's
summer camp, Adventure Club, hosts week-long programs for kids entering kindergarten through fifth grade. Sessions run Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm.
