about World Bird Sanctuary:

One of North America's largest facilities for the conservation of birds, the 130-acre World Bird Sanctuary is dedicated to interactive, entertaining environmental education about the earth's biological diversity and about the life cycle, habitats, and future of bird species. The sanctuary is home to more than 350 animals.

WBS is available for naturalist-guided field trips for groups, scouts, or classrooms, and it also can host birthday parties featuring a live animal encounter; parties can be held at WBS or at a location of your choice.

Visitors can hike the trails, view animal exhibits, visit with volunteer and staff naturalists, picnic and bird-watch, and shop the Raptique Gift Shop for unique nature-related gift items, including jewelry, sculptures, clothing, books, and children's toys and games.

getting there:

Take I-44 to the Hwy. 141 exit (Exit 272, approximately four miles west of the I-44/I-270 interchange). Go north on Hwy. 141 to the first available right turn, which leads to the I-44 north outer road. (Follow signs for Lone Elk Park.) Turn left on the north outer road and continue 2.4 miles to the World Bird Sanctuary entrance, which will be to the right. The WBS entrance is just before the entrance to Lone Elk Park.
