I've been a customer since my two sons were toddlers, they are now 22 and 28. I've been going for myself ever since. Everyone there are top professionals, I wouldn't think of going anywhere else!

Worth the trip!

The haircut was so-so and our stylist did not smile once or talk to my son AT ALL. Not worth it.

I've been taking my son to the Yellow Balloon in WESTWOOD (as opposed to the yucky Santa Monica store), since he was 18 mos. I've had two stylists there and love the place. My son is shy, but he loves going there. The ladies are so sweet and friendly. And they give great haircuts. People are always complimenting his hair. I agree that this isn't the cheapest place to get a child's hair cut, but if you want a great haircut for your child with no tears or stress, I strongly encourage you to go see them.

My son not only got a great haircut from the owner , when he was finished I was so impressed I sat down and had her cut my hair as well. My wife was very impressed when we both came home.

My kid got an okay cut but I thought the attitude of the stylist was pretty harsh... not kid-friendly. At one point, she commented on how I should parent my child. Will not go back.

We took our sons in yesterday and got the worst haircuts of their lives. One of our sons had beautiful long hair, and we asked for it to be trimmed up a bit (think 70s boy cut). The woman hacked it to pieces, and then argued with us when he sat in the chair a second time. Finally, when our stylist left, a woman named Natalie stepped in to fix it a bit. She did wonders, but he still looks like a girl (think Dorothy Hammill). Don't bother with this place. It cost us $50 with cut and fix it tip.

We won't be going back either! Thought it would cheer my daughter up to go to a special place to get her hair washed, combed and trimmed as she broke her leg and was stuck mostly at home for weeks. Was I ever wrong! The stylist yanked my daughter's hair repeatedly so hard-it brought her to tears & I had to intercede. She didn't seem to care & complained about

I went to the Yellow Balloon in Studio City where I was assured there was a hair stylist who was an expert at cutting children with mixed ethnicity hair. My son's hair is wavy and very smooth. AT THE TIME, it was to his shoulders when I asked for 2 inches to be cut....we left with me crying when the stylist gave him damn near a buzz cut. I had my money refunded and have never gone back. Take your kids to your own hairstylists!!!!!!

I took my 3yr old girl today to the Westwood location. After her haircut was done I thought about it and ask for my girl's hair to be cut a little shorter in the back. They told me I need to pay $10 more dollars on top of the $24.00 + tips I already paid for them to spend at most 2 more minutes to cut the back 1 inch shorter. They just lost my business and the business of everyone I know.

not a good place to take your kids!! I went to the studio city one. the ladies very unfriendly! the toys are old and dirty!my 3 year old girl, begged me not to take her there anymore!! the girl that cut her hair did not even talk to my baby. the price is about $24.00 we are never going back!! and all my friends that wanted to go I told them, better find another place!!

With over 20 years experience in the business, The Yellow Balloon in Studio City is the best place to get your kids cuts, dads cuts, and mommy's cuts and color. I grew up going to The Yellow Balloon and now that I am married and have children, my entire family goes there. My husband goes to Vic and my kids will go to anyone who is available. And as for my cut and color, I go to Ennio ( I think that is how its spelled but not sure) for my color, and Sabrina the owner for my cut. Sabrina is the only person who can cut my hair because she is fast and damn great at it!! All my girlfriends go to her now for their cuts because they love the way she cuts (and she is really nice). It is truly the best place to go to get cuts for the whole family. It is also where my kids got their first hair cut. They provide a picture, an envelope with the lock of hair, and a cute yellow certificate that says they received a first haircut. I have saved each first haircut from the Yellow Balloon and have put it in each baby book. My kids love the free yellow balloons, cookies, lollipops and the toys at every station. There is a small arcade for the kids to play and it truly keeps them busy while I am getting my hair done. For busy moms, this is the best place to take hair of all your hair needs for the entire family. I won't go anywhere else, and neither will my kids or my husband. On a side note, I have also seen a lot of movie stars that take there kids. Eric McCormick from Will & Grace takes his son there and I swear I saw Andy Garcia getting his haircut with the owner Sabrina. I couldn't have been more star struck by seeing Andy Garcia. Go to the Yellow Balloon and you will never go anywhere else!!

I took my 4 year old there. I must say he didn't want to be there in the first place. He was throwing a fit, but the lady just hacked away at his hair anyway. She just ignored him and didn't try to make him comfortable or anything. The result a horrible haircut that took months to grow out and a terrified child that hasn't had his haircut since. The place is also old and rundown, dirty kind of feel. Didn't like it.

I have been going to see Denny and Staff at The Yellow Balloon on Baldwwin ave in Arcadia for 20 years. He did my hair for prom, my daughter had her first haircut there, my great grandmother had her last, and when my mom had heart surgery an could not do her own hair, he offered her a weekly appt to wash and do her hair. There are toys, balloons and cookies in this friendly spot. look for the mini shrine to all of his customers - he keeps their pictures on the wall.

We called at 4pm on Friday and they gave us a 6:30 appt. for that same evening. My 1-year-old daughter got her first hair cut tonight. They were wonderful! I held her on my lap and we each got our own "cape" to keep the hair off our clothing. I told the nice lady, Alva, what I wanted and she did a beautiful job. She was very good with our daughter, too. Gave her a toy to keep her occupied. VERY reasonable price, at $13 (plus $5 tip). Gave her a balloon (which we could barely pry from her hands when it was time to go to bed!), took a Polaroid of her after her cut and gave us a cute little "My First Hair Cut" envelope with her hair clippings in it. Also presented her with a "I got my first hair cut and graduated from Babyhood" certificate. Adorable! A very, very nice experience.

Took our 2 year-old son to three different stylists at the Westwood location. Never had a problem finding parking in the albeit small lot in back. I agree with other reviewers that it's not exactly the tidiest or friendliest salon. But they do a decent job. Had our first haircut with Lisa, who seemed experienced with kids but rushed through the job. She sat my son down on my lap and distracted him with an unclean toy on his. Lee was recommended for boys' cuts and I was pleased that he followed my instructions for a longer 'do with his curls intact. He was less interactive with our son but took his time with the cut. Natalie is super sweet but she lopped off our son's curls (after being explicitly told not to) and essentially gave him the dreaded bowl-cut. And it's true--no yellow balloons in sight.

Everything you could want for your kids and more. The thought of a haircut is exciting for both my kids.

I'd read so many wonderful things on this site about Yellow Balloon, and chose the Westwood location for Natalie in particular. What awaited me and my 14-month-old son was NOT what you'd want for a first haircut... first of all, I circled the block for 10 minutes after finding their parking lot full. I finally pleaded with the guy at Radio Shack, who let me park there. I walked into the narrow Yellow Balloon storefront, and was immediately turned off by the cut hair all over the floors, worn-looking toys, dingey furnishings, cramped work stations, the absence of a place for mom to sit and a photo and some cut curls only as an afterthought! We were given just 15 minutes for a $17 cut (we were told it would be $20 for the next time.) Natalie was sweet and the cut turned out fine, but when your wiggly toddler has a rushed pair of sharp scissors flashing around his eyes, it's not worth the time or money. And can you believe it - not a yellow balloon in sight! My sister went to the Wilshire location in Santa Monica, said they took their time (and yes, her daughter received a balloon.) The first time should be special! The only reason here for the two stars is Natalie's sweet smile and the decent haircut. Sorry, but I won't be coming back.

You need to know which stylist is good. there is usually only one in each location.

We've gone to two different stylists at the Yellow Balloon in Westwood and have been so happy with them. My son is two and has never cried while getting his hair cut there. Moreover, the cut is great - we get compliments on his hair all the time. They really like kids and they're really good at both recommending a good style and listening to what the parent wants for the child.

We go to the Santa Monica Yellow Balloon. Pros: the haircuts are usually fine (we always go for basic cuts) and they take walk-ins. Cons: the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. The place seems dirty, the toys and books are worn, and the stylists are not always that friendly or interested in the kids.

The hairstylist (a guy) has not paid much attention to my request and chopped up my son's hair to short leaving both of us almost crying.

I am a mother of three and after some bad experiences at the Santa Monica location I was referred to Natalie at the Westwood location.Skeptical to trying another Yellowballoon I still gave it a try and I couldn't be any happier by the result. I recommend this location to all mothers seeking a place to take their children for an amazing haircut!

I am in my early 20’s and I have been going to the Westwood location since I was a little. The shop as a whole is always clean and filled with toys and games for the little kids. The hairdressers are friendly and beyond knowledgeable on the art of cutting children hair. I have never had a problem with my haircuts or the service at the Westwood location and in fact will not go anywhere else and will wait till I am back in the Los Angeles area to my haircuts. I highly recommend Natalie or Lisa.

The Yellow Balloon on Westwood offers grade A service and great haircuts! I accompanied my little cousin for a trim and not only was the cut pretty but Natalie is super sweet and friendly! Great environment, fun, vibrant...its all worth it! Just bring cash or check only, they're old school like that which makes the whole experience more homely :) Make sure you call the one on Westwood though.

My daughter has had her twice now and she is great with kids - gives a great haircut and is really sensitive to their needs and fears. My son used someone else (we have twins so did two haircuts at the same time) and this woman sprayed his hair down with no warning - total meltdown (and it wasn't even his first time!) Then at the end she pulled out the electric razor and, once again, just brought it to his head with no warning and scared the heck out of him. She seemed to have no sense that she was working on a little one. From now on, we will ONLY use Adrianna - and for her, I'd check five stars!

I've been to 2 different locations and was unimpressed to say the least. I should of given up until someone told me I need to give the Westwood location a chance. I'm so glad I did! I was lucky to have Lisa and Natalie that day. They certainly knew what they were doing, but most importantly they were having fun with my kids! My children could not stop talking about their experience there! I would highly recommend those ladies at the Westwood location!

i guess the pleasant surprise was that my daughter didn't totally meltdown while getting her first haircut. but i was very disappointed with how it turned out. my daughter has thick hair with no defined "part" -- i even brought that to the attention to the stylist who seemed to FORCE a part on her and cut her hair accordingly -- then, she proceeded to put clips in her hair - when i specifically said she can't wear clips at daycare. so now, in the "real world" my 1 1/2 year old is left with a cut that looks lop-sided and - at best - we can go back to stuffing it in a ponytail on top of her head. in all, it was nice to see my normally shy kid could tolerate such an experience, but considering the result, i should have waited til i found someone who took the time to give her a proper cut/style.

I have a kid that just turned 3, her has been going there for the past 2 years after trying other places that were not all that great. We always goto Perry in the Studio City location. She cuts his real curly hair wonderfully and is always nice to him...gives him cookies, big hugs etc....sure his cuts cost more than mine, but worth it for now.

my two kids absoutlely love going to the yellow balloon in studio city, the salon is adorable and the kids love the treats they get ,popcorn ,licorice etc. i just like that i can see any of the stlyist and always get a good cut,

I have been going to the Yellow Balloon in Studio City ever since I was a toddler myself, and it has been a great experience every time. Nice people, great haircuts, and affordability are all big pluses. Deffinetly a good place for kids.

Oh my god,it sounded like fun on the website. We got there and they were barely interested in our patronage. The woman started to cut my sons hair, granted he doesnt like strange people so close to him, but when you advertise you cut kids hair you should be able to relate to children/babies. The only toy she gave him was dirty and full of hair and she made stupid unknown sounds like "click click" with her mouth to try to calm him. There was nothing unique about the place. it seemed dirty from the start and the 3 women barely spoke to us. When I told her to stop as she was upsetting him so much spraying his head with a water bottle and making no effort to calm him, she ignored me and continued. By the end of the cut and we had a chance to look at him, she had butchered his hair in the front. I was so embarrassed I put a hat on him for a few weeks. Lucky his hair grows fast. Then to be asked for $20 plus tip for a baby's trim and we had to ask for the balloon it talks about in the advertisement. They had turned off the arcade machines and it was only 3pm, mind you this was the only thing due to the lights flashing that stopped him fussing for a minute and the girl promptly turned it off so he started crying again. I will stick to Fantastic Sams on Doheny for $13 and the girls fuss over him so the whole experience at this adults salon is far better. I would never recommend this place, it was a horror experience, nothing unique at all. I could put a chair in my living room and the toys around us would be far more exciting and calming for a child.

My three girls get their hair cut by Natalie at the Yellow Balloon on Westwood Blvd. They love going there, and Natalie gives them adorable hair cuts that last. There are also toys and video games that keep them busy while their sisters are taking their turn in the chair. I recommend Natalie at Yellow Balloon to everyone I know!

Our son has been getting his hair cut at the Valley location since he turned 1 (he's three now). The staff is very nice, and he loves going there. It moved, so now you have to park on the street, but it's usually not a problem. I think there is a valet option in back. We're very happy with them.

my experience with the workers at the yellow balloon was not good- i felt they were very pretentious and rude, which was unexpected coming from a place that's supposed to be supportive of little children. i'm not saying anything against their skills, but people usually don't come here for skills necessarily, they come for the ultimate happy, fun, and exciting experience only to be met with a stern face and people taking themselves way too seriously. skills- ok. customer service- not! by the way, this is for the santa monica location. i can't say anything about the others.

My daughter got her first haircut at the one in the San Fernando Valley. Not only was it an adorable haircut, but my daughter still has fond memories of the place ... two years later she still wants to go back! Supercuts is a little cheaper - but the yellow balloon is really designed with kids in mind!

This place is cluttered and dirty. Just because a business is for kids doesn't mean it has to look and feel as though it were being run by them. Toys and games are great but please, keep them clean!! They had the dirt (and presumably germs) of the ages on them. Yuk. The customer service at the front desk was even worse than the housekeeping. The haircut wasn't bad, but I have to say it's not the kind of place I'd bring my kids again.

...and really knows how to cut kids hair!
