Good Vibrations


The Discovery Center of Idaho hosts a hands-on, traveling exhibit themed around sound, vibrations, cycles, and repeating patterns. Some activities include listening to the radio through your teeth, using flip flops to slap out a beat, and playing a pipe organ by selecting pipes and pumping the bellows.

James Castle: Tying it Together


James Castle: Tying it Together is an exhibition by a self-taught Idaho artist who was born deaf and never learned to read, write, or use sign language. Castle ignores traditional drawing materials in favor of discarded cardboard, scraps of paper, and homemade charcoal and dyes.

Corrugated: Sculpture by Ann Weber


Corrugated is an art installation by California artist Ann Weber. Ann transforms the ordinary medium of cardboard into impressive large-scale sculptures reminiscent of pods, gourds, and organic spires. Visitors can walk among the towering shapes, some as large as 16 feet tall.

Kid Stuff


Kid Stuff is an exhibit geared toward the kid in everyone. It features a selection of artwork from the museum's permanent collection, augmented by works from local private collections. Works include Chocolate Cake with Chile and Fish by Marilyn Lysohir, Circus by Alexander Calder, Craig Cully's Lilliputian Candies, Deborah Barrett's googly-eyed figures, Frog Sandwich by David Gilhooly, bugs and bears by Benjamin Jones, and other works in which the artists reach out to the child in each of us.

REI's Kids' Passport to Adventure


REI's Passport to Adventure program is designed to get families out on hikes and bicycle rides throughout the summer and early fall months. Participating kids receive a journal in which they can log their experiences. Children who complete at least one outdoor activity can send in the tear-off postcard from the journal or visit the website to get a certificate of completion and a prize. The website also offers bonus activities that can be downloaded.

Borders Kids' Summer Reading Challenge


Kids can hit the books this summer by taking part in Borders Kids' Summer Reading Challenge. Children pick up Challenge Forms at participating Borders locations, read eight books, list them on the form, and return the form to Borders in exchange for a coupon for 50% off select Reading Challenge items (drawing kits, jigsaw puzzles, books, etc.). Kids Bowl Free


A select number of bowling halls across the country, including our local 20th Century Lanes, offer kids two free games every day throughout the summer, redeemable by email coupons. Parents can sign their children up through the website and receive coupons for each child every week. A Family Pass is also available for $23.95 and allows up to four adults to go bowling with the kids. Standard shoe rental rates apply. Some restrictions do apply.

Boise Hawks vs Eugene Emeralds


The Boise Hawks take on the Eugene Emeralds. Saturday's game features post-game fireworks. Kids can get a free hot dog and soft drink, plus 400 first base seats are available for unemployed workers (must show recent unemployment pay stub) during Monday night's game. Tuesday is KRAFT Singles Day; bring a KRAFT Singles package wrapper to the box office to receive buy one, get one free tickets. Wednesday is Family Feast Night; hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream sandwiches, and snow cones cost just $1.
