Meadow Music: Nature Hikes and Songs


Open Space and Mountain Parks staffers Jeff Kagan and Mark Wesson lead families in an evening of children's music and nature adventures. Activities include a short hike on the McClintock Trail (moderate steepness) to meet some animal friend of the week and a 45-concert of nature music on the Chautauqua Green. Participants are welcome to bring along picnic dinners and blankets for seating; meet at the Chautauqua Ranger Cottage.

Jurassic Gardens: Evolution and Extinction


Life-sized, realistic dinosaurs have invaded the Gardens, and families are invited to dodge the prehistoric creatures while exploring plant displays that showcase ancient flora and their modern relatives. Plant fossils and a dinosaur dig site for kids round out the installation. Visit the Chatfield Extension to see giant prehistoric bugs, including a 10-foot sea scorpion.

Navajo Weaving: Diamonds, Dreams, and Landscapes


Comprised of three separate iterations, each displaying 20-30 Navajo textiles, the exhibit showcases nearly 100 textiles from the museum's spectacular collection of rare Southwestern textiles. The three iterations of the textiles are divided into Diamonds and Beyond, Dreams, and Landscapes, each focusing on a different design element found in Navajo textiles. Most of the textiles have never been displayed for the general public before.

Several metro Denver bowling halls, including AMF Arvada Lanes, offer kids two free games every day throughout the summer, redeemable by email coupons. DMNS celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing with The Apollo Legacy: The Moon and Beyond, a program that features archival film footage that was shot out Eagle's window as it descended to the lunar surface and a live simulcast from the Newseum in Washington DC with astronauts and administrators from NASA, who discuss the past, present, and future of space exploration.
