Westland Summer Festival


The annual festival opens with a city parade along Ford Road at 6pm on July 1 and ends with a spectacular fireworks display on July 5 at 10:15pm. The festival, located behind City Hall, is family oriented with various children and adult events, including a petting farm, carnival rides, and games for all ages. Families can also enjoy Robinsons Racing Pigs, a arge arts and crafts show, various food concessions, and live entertainment nightly.

Comerica Cityfest brings loads of food and entertainment to Detroit's New Center area with its free national and local talent on four stages plus more than 40 Michigan restaurants selling "tastes" of their specialties. Other activities include free stage shows, a Tot Lot, and a marketplace of unique Detroit products and memorabilia. The festival takes place on West Grand Boulevard between Woodward Avenue and the Lodge Freeway (M-10). Families with strollers might find it easier to move through the festival earlier in the day. Salute to America


The Detroit Symphony Orchestra performs rousing American musical favorites in celebration of Independence Day, capped off by Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture accompanied by cannon fire and fireworks. There's pre-concert entertainment, as well as kids' activities including 19th-century lawn games and a special visit from members of Greenfield Village's historic baseball teams. The event features lawn seating; families are welcomed to bring a blanket and a picnic meal. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Purchase tickets in advance through the website. VIP passes allow admission into VIP seating with chairs and parking in Eagle Tavern parking lot. Parking is $5. GoCityKids tip: The event area is quite dark after the fireworks conclude, so bring a flashlight to help pack up and safely move 'em out!
