The exhibit features nearly 50 props, costumes, and awards from George Lucas's blockbuster films, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and American Graffiti. A special section of the exhibit, Live the Adventure, gives visitors the opportunity to shoot, run, and climb their way through scenes from some of these movies.

Terra Cotta Warriors


Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of China's First Emperor includes a sample of the Eighth Wonder of the Ancient World: 20 of the life-like, life-size clay warriors created as protectors of the tomb of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in the third century BC. The exhibit also features more than 100 other artifacts from the emperor's vast necropolis, including a suit of armor, pendants, and ritual objects. Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended; tickets include admission to the permanent exhibit halls.

Genghis Khan


The special exhibition explores the innovation, technological mastery, engineering marvels, and cultural sophistication of the world's greatest conqueror, Genghis Khan. The exhibit features interactive role-playing activities; wrap-around screen films; artisans, musicians, dancers, and singers from Mongolia; and treasures and artifacts from a host of Chinese and Mongolian museums. Although best known for his children's books written under the name "Dr. Seuss," Theodor Geisel served as chief political cartoonist for a New York newspaper from 1941-1943 and created more than 400 editorial cartoons. Dr. Seuss Wants You! features some of these serious and unexpected works.

Bearing Witness: A Community Remembers


Authentic film footage, artifacts, photographs, and documents show life in pre-war Europe, during the Nazi movement, and after the Holocaust. The exhibit includes a very rare and poignant collection of children's shoes recovered from a concentration camp in Poland, and an authentic World War II rail car of the type used to transport people to the concentration camps.

Gem Vault


The Lester and Sue Smith Gem Vault, a new permanent exhibit hall, features cut and polished jewels, including dazzling examples of diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald, aquamarine, and more. The centerpiece is a 1,869-carat natural emerald crystal, the largest ever recovered in North America.

Cockrell Butterfly Center & Hall of Entomology


The butterfly exhibit is a three-story glass structure that showcases hundreds of live butterflies in a naturalistic rainforest setting, where butterflies flutter among - and occasionally land on - visitors strolling the paths or relaxing on benches. The Brown Hall of Entomology contains several live insects from around the world, as well as interactive displays. A children's room provides a nice quiet spot for parents to sit and for kids to use their imaginations - on hand are books, puzzles, games, tables and chairs, soft benches, insect puppets, and a giant beehive for kids to crawl through and clamber upon.
