CMoM presents the nation's only museum exhibition inspired by the popular characters from the award-winning Nickelodeon series' Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go!. The bilingual exhibit - a collaboration between CMOM, Nickelodeon, and series co-creators Chris Gifford and Valerie Walsh - uses a multi-sensory environment to transport children to Dora's house, Diego's Animal Rescue Center, and a tropical rainforest. Interactive elements help young visitors learn about Latino culture, preschool science, and animal facts.

The Horse


The Horse examines the powerful relationship between horses and humans and the integral role the horse has played in the history of humanity and civilization. The exhibition also presents the origins of the horse family, extending back more than 50 million years. Highlights include a diorama of horse evolution, the horse in art from the Paleolithic to the present, horse gear and armor from 16th century Germany, and a horse-drawn fire engine from the 19th century. Visitors can measure their strength in horsepower; examine different gaits of a horse by looking through a zoetrope; explore the history of horses in sports from early forms of polo to the Triple Crown and the Olympics; and learn about the latest developments in the study of horse biology and the role of the horse in modern society.

Celebrate Kwanzaa


The National Park Service hosts a Kwanzaa celebration at the African Burial Ground National Monument with daytime workshops and an evening performance. A Kuba cloth workshop (10am & 1pm) focuses on the art of African cloth and gives participants the opportunity to create their own piece of Kuba cloth. Uncovering the Story of the African Burial Ground through Archeology (11am & 1pm) offers participants the opportunity to examine replica artifacts from the burial ground. Professor Rashidah Ismaili AbuBakr presents a writing workshop (10am & 1pm) that encourages families to document recollections of family history, places, and things in their lives that have shaped who and what they are. Participants are asked to bring photographs and small important objects such as jewelry or cloth to weave into their story. Khadyjah Alleyne leads a traditional African dance and drumming workshop (2:30pm). And musical guests Lonnie Youngblood and the Blood Brothers Band, Lady Cantrese and Friends, and poet T. Rasul Murray perform at 7pm. Reserve in advance.
