Kids and their families can plant, tend, and harvest fruit, herbs, and vegetables all summer long in NYBG's Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden. Various display gardens educate visitors on the ingredients in their favorite meals, such as the the Pizza Garden, which features wheat, oregano, basil, tomatoes, and more, and The Breakfast Bowl, which displays edible plants that provide the ingredients in common cereal such as corn, barley, oats, rice, and wheat. Each month features a different theme. In July, kids can go on an herbal scavenger hunt to smell, taste, and touch some of the 40 herbs in the Garden's collection, make and sample a healthy herb snack, cool off with refreshing herbal iced tea, and pot up an herb to take home.
