| Exhibits 426650 | Frogs: A Chorus of ColorsFamilies can explore the evolution and biology of frogs, their importance to ecosystems, and the threats they face in the world's changing environments. More than 200 live frogs, from tiny dart poison frogs (some less than an inch long) to the enormous African bullfrog (as big as eight inches in diameter), are displayed in their recreated habitats, complete with rock ledges, live plants, and waterfalls. Approximately 25 species from countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Borneo, Brazil, China, Colombia, Kenya, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Russia, Sumatra, Suriname, the United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Vietnam are represented. The dazzling action, which takes place on the Hudson River this year, allows for prime viewing for spectators from 23rd to 59th Streets on the West side of Manhattan. More than 40,000 shells are fired from six barges positioned between 24th and 50th Streets. If you're willing to brave the mayhem, arrive early to ensure a spot. Optimal "on-site" viewing areas include the West Side Highway (north-bound lanes and 12th Avenue between 23rd and 59th Streets); selected side streets between 11th and 12th Avenues; Dewitt Clinton Park (access from 11th Avenue); Pier 54 (limited access from 14th Street); and Pier 84 (limited access from 44th Street). Spectators can access the viewing locations at these points: 24th Street; 26th through 30th Streets; 34th Street; 40th through 44th Streets; 47th through 52nd Streets; and 54th through 57th Streets. Hudson River Park Promenade and the Hudson River Park Bike Path (between West Houston and 59th Streets) are not accessible viewing locations, nor are Battery Park and Battery Park City.
