Painted Metaphors


A world-renowned collection of ancient Mayan painted pottery, excavated by the University of Pennsylvania Museum nearly a century ago, provides the centerpiece for the Painted Metaphors: Pottery and Politics of the Ancient Maya. The exhibition reflects the ancient Mayan way of life and includes over 150 ancient artifacts, including figurines, jade carvings, musical instruments, weaving implements, burial urns, and cave offerings, as well as photos and video of Mayan life in the village of Chama today.
