Independence Day Celebration


Washington Crossing Historic Park celebrates Independence Day with appearances by Thomas Paine, General Washington, and other costumed interpreters. Guests can visit with the re-enactors, see an early printing press operate, play Colonial children's games, ring a travelling Liberty Bell, hear the firing of the cannon, and tour historic buildings in the park.

Independence Day Concert & Fireworks


Tredyffrin Township hosts its annual Independence Day celebration in Wilson Farm Park. The event features a concert by Ben Mauger's Vintage Jazz Band from 7pm-9pm, and fireworks at dusk (around 9pm). Snacks and drinks are available for purchase at the park's snack bar. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket for seating during this free, outdoor event. Rain date 7/5.

Betsy's Independence Day Bash

Independence Day Parade and Concert


The annual Garrett Hill-Rosemont Independence Day parade departs from Clem Macrone Park at 10:15am. Registration for all decorated bikes and floats is held from 9am-10am at the Rosemont Business Campus, 919 Conestoga Road in Rosemont; prizes are awarded for the best decorated bikes and parade floats. A concert of big band music by The Professionals takes place in the park after the parade; bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating during the show.

Party on the Parkway


An afternoon of food, music, and live entertainment takes places on the Ben Franklin Parkway before the annual concert with fireworks. This year's event features live Australian animals and edutainment, children's activities from the Please Touch Museum, a visit from the Philadelphia Zoo's Zoo on Wheels, a Go 4th and Learn pavilion, inflatables, face painting, sand art, a mobile children's theater, crafts, and more. The party, part of the city's 2009 Sunoco Welcome America! festivities, is underway at 20th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Old-Fashioned July 4th Celebration


The Fonthill Museum re-creates an early 20th century Independence Day celebration with activities that include live music, storytelling by Robin Moore, a watermelon-eating contest, and turn-of-the-century games such as town ball, stilt walking, bucket brigade relays, wheelbarrow races, and tug-o-war. Picnic foods and tours of the Fonthill castle are available for additional fees. Children are invited to decorate their bikes up in red, white, and blue for a bike parade ride down Fonthill's driveway at 12:30pm; prizes are awarded in different categories for the most creatively decorated bikes. Heavy rain cancels the event.

Life, Liberty, and You Concert and Fireworks

Pops on Independence Concert

Feel the Freedom Festival: Celebrating Lincoln


The National Constitution Center hosts a three-day celebration of freedom fighters that honors Abraham Lincoln and his contributions to the US. Guests can explore how Lincoln and other freedom fighters such as Fredrick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony used the Fourth of July as a celebration to become "a more perfect Union," watch a Civil War battle reenactment on the center's front lawn, learn more about the Philadelphia copy of the Emancipation Proclamation, hunt for Lincoln throughout history during the Lincoln 200 Scavenger Hunt, and see interactive performances of The Fourth of July Show at noon.

July 4th Bike Parade and Picnic


The Easttown Township Parks and Recreation Board hosts its sixth annual July 4th Bike Parade, followed by a free picnic that features a moon bounce, games, races, face painting, food eating contests, and more. All children in attendance receive a package of patriotic gifts. Registration for the parade begins at 10:30am in front of the Easttown Library. The parade begins at 11am and the Picnic is held from 11:30am until 1:30pm behind the library.
