An internationally known sculptor, Umlauf was a 40-year member of the University of Texas art faculty. He and his wife Angeline gave their estate, including their studio and many sculptures, to the City of Austin in 1985. The Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum is home to more than 130 sculptures, drawings, and paintings.

The Garden is wheelchair-accessible, and therefore easy on the strollers too. Kids can pick up a Sculpture Safari packet to turn a visit into a real adventure as they hunt for each sculpture; completed Safari forms can be turned in for a reward.
