Kumon Centers offer programs designed to help students from kindergarten through high school improve their skills in math, reading, and test taking.

The Kumon system relies on five basic principles for success: The right starting point (achieved by diagnostic testing), an individualized program, self-learning, repetition, and good study habits. Self-learning and repetition are key: Children are expected to work on an individual basis with customized worksheets, and to practice, practice, practice.

The program requires about 20 minutes per day of homework and two visits (1/2-1 hour each) per week to the Kumon center.

Each engaging, educational Abrakadoodle art workshop, camp, or party introduces children to different materials and art-making techniques. Lessons never repeat, and every child leaves each class with a new piece of framed art.

Birthday parties: Abrakadoodle books parties for children ages three through 12, and can also bring the party to you. Select an art activity; materials and a teacher are provided.

Summer camps: Half-day art camps are offered for ages three through 12, in partnership with Crayola. Children are grouped by age and introduced to a wide variety of materials and techniques, including sculpture, mosaics, collage, and paint.

The winner of our 2008 Parents' Picks quest to find the best Artsy Class in Denver, My Art Workshop is a drop-in arts and crafts creativity center for kids. Children of all ages can paint and decorate woodwork, tie-dye or fabric paint clothing and accessories, do sand art, spin paint, create jewelry, paint pottery, create mosaics and stepping stones, and more.

The studio also hosts birthday parties, field trips, Parents' Night Out, summer camp programs, and offers ongoing preschool and after school classes.

Beautiful murals cover the walls in this gym just for young children so they can roll, crawl, climb and create with the safe equipment and friendly staff. Movement classes are for infants, toddlers, and walkers. Craft classes and music classes are designed for kids aged two to six. It's a great place for birthday parties, and the family nights are fun for the whole family.

Kangaroo Kingdom also offers Kids' Movie Night & Parents' Night Out once a month, Spanish Classes for 2-7 years and classes for parents. Lots of other adventures and classes for parents and children are also offered. Visit their web site for complete information and schedules.

It seems like there's always someone shopping, browsing, playing, or chatting in the Apple Retail Store. When you walk in, you're greeted by a Concierge who can direct you to the techie person or hands-on iPod, iPhone, computer, or other "toy" to play with. Got a problem with an Apple product? Visit with the folks behind the Genius Bar at the back of the store (you typically need to make an appointment for these guys - you can do that from home via the website, or on one of the demo computers in the store). They really are amazing.

Positioned next to the Genius Bar is a low table just for kids. It's stocked with computers loaded with kid-friendly software, but kids don't sit on chairs - they sit on giant rubber balls (!) while they play games. PC types, beware - your kids may start begging for a Mac, to go with their iPods...

If you've got music-loving, tech-savvy teens, call and ask when the next "Garage Band Workshop" is scheduled. Participants can learn to create songs using pre-recorded professional loops and effects, or record from a keyboard or guitar directly into a Mac, and then mix it. (Musical experience not required; earplugs not included.)
