Xcite Steps is an innovative after school and summer mentorship club dedicated to assisting children, teens and adults with developmental or cognitive disabilities. Xcite Steps has structured programs that fit the needs of persons with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, developmental disabilities, cognitive disabilities, fragile x, or any other challenges.

Xcite Steps builds a program around your child’s needs and provides a qualified, youthful, and compassionate mentor who works with your child in an encouraging and positive environment. The key to our program is overcoming challenges step by step.

Xcite Steps mentors can get your child involved in fun outdoor or indoor recreational activities individually or with others and work on areas where they need improvement. The mentors select activities that inspire children, teens, and adults and teach them how to be successful with their own abilities.

Xcite Steps also offers week-long summer camps for kids and teens with developmental or cognitive challenges. Xcite Steps works hard to build and maintain an environment where campers feel like they can be themselves, open up, make friends and most importantly have fun. The sports, arts and crafts, community outings, and outdoor recreational games and activities help inspire and develop friendships.

The Rare Hare Studio offers art classes for children in preschool through eighth grade. A unique feature of the studio is Rare Hare FAIR (Fostering Artistic Ingenuity with Recycling) in which classes include reclaimed or recycled items as a major theme in the project.

Groups events such as hosting Girl Scouts or custom birthday parties are also available.

Week-long camp programs are offered during the summer. Camp rates are $250/week and include materials and a snack. Camps run from 10am-3pm and include work using a wide range of materials and techniques, guided lessons, and open-ended projects. Each week focuses on a different theme, and most camps include a local walk or trip to the park two times during the week.

Art 4 Children offers a wide variety of classes - some at local schools, many at the studio, others at private events - including birthday parties. They even offer week-long camps for kids during school breaks. The classes range from Mommy and Me sessions to arts and crafts workshops for the older kids.

Gymboree, which runs a chain of high end clothing stores for children, also offers lots of opportunities for parents (mostly moms) and kids to meet and get to know each other.

Each 45-minute class is broken out by age (zero-six months,
six-12 months, 10-18 months, 14-28 months, two years, three years, four years, and five years) enabling teachers to introduce
activities that are developmentally appropriate.

Gymboree's philosophy is that by taking one of its
classes for just 45 minutes once a week, parents can help
build the foundation for social skills, cognitive
development, physical ability, and self-esteem. And
along the way, meet other parents to share stories and
exchange ideas.

All memberships include free PlayGyms. One-time family enrollment fee is $40.

Birthday Parties: A Gymboree birthday party is good option when it's time to throw a bash for energetic little kids. Gymboree provides a room full of play equipment, an enthusiastic teacher, and a Gymboree class. Party givers can personalize the party by selecting a theme that works best of the birthday child. Gymboree provides ballons and goodie bags for every child, as well as all the Gymboree party utensils.

Birthday party options start at $225.

Aloha Fun CPR Training at Home comes to your home or business and provides training and certification in the lifesaving skills of CPR, choking remedies, and basic first aid.

Classes are only two-and-a-half hours long; 75% of the class time is devoted to hands-on practice.

OptiWell offers entertaining and interactive classes for teenagers and nannies to learn how to be safe babysitters. Courses are offered in San Diego and around the county, and include Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.

The American Red Cross, an organization funded by generous community donations, offers first aid, CPR, and water safety classes, along with lifeguard training and specialty classes such as infant/child CPR and Pet First Aid. Their Women, Infant and Children’s (WIC) program provides free nutritional counseling and support for expecting mothers and women with children ages five and under.

In addition, the American Red Cross responds to a disaster on average every 24 hours. Volunteers of all ages are invited to make a difference in the community. Emergency communication services are provided to deployed military personnel and their families through their Service to the Armed Forces program.
