Primitive toys made of natural materials are the norm here, and there is not a computer or television to be seen in the lower grades. Four-week and eight-week parent-and-child classes are offered for families with children ages four and under. The four-week class costs $80 and the eight-week $160. One of four Waldorf schools in southeastern Michigan, Oakland Steiner was founded in 1989 and is housed in the historic Stiles Elementary School building. |

The Detroit school is one of the oldest of the Waldorf schools in North America. Housed in an historic building designed by Albert Kahn, the school was founded in 1966 as an independent, nonsectarian kindergarten and elementary school. It sits on four acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. Waldorf offers a six-week parent-tot class, and summer camp programs are available for kids ages three to 14. |
