A Woman's Work offers products, services, and resources to support women in the special work of childbearing and breastfeeding. The store is designed for any woman wishing to get advice, weigh a baby, nurse or pump breastmilk, buy a perfectly fitted bra, flip through the latest books on birth and breastfeeding, or choose from an array of products, clothing, and gifts.

Items include maternity clothes, nursing bras, baby gear such as slings and diaper bags, clothes for the newborn, breast pumps and other feeding accessories, and baby care basics.

A lactation consultant is available for individual counseling and breastfeeding "troubleshooting" by appointment, both in-home and at the store.

Across the street, A Woman's Workshop provides a gathering place for expectant and new mothers to learn and share their experiences. Classes and workshops include preparing for childbirth, infant massage, infant CPR, baby-proofing your home, and others. Support groups also meet on a variety of subjects such as postpartum and breastfeeding. Babies are welcome in most classes, except when noted in course descriptions.

Pre-registration is required for all workshops and classes.

Founded in 1990, ComedySportz Houston provides an interactive, competitive improv show to audiences of all ages. The show is comedy played as a sport, not comedy about sports, pitting two teams of improvisers in a battle for laughs and points in scenes, games, and songs based on audience suggestions. The improv teams keep the comedy clean, with fouls issued to transgressors. Concessions are available in the theater.

On the first Saturday of each month, ComedySportz hosts special, one-hour ComedySportz 4 Kidz shows, designed for kids under age 14. The shows are interactive as volunteers are pulled from the audience to join the action on-stage. Reservations are required for these shows.

In addition to improv workshops for adults, ComedySportz also trains improv troupes for high school leagues; interested high schoolers can contact ComedySportz to join a team.

Founded in 1923, the French Alliance (Alliance Francaise de Houston) is a non-profit organization that hosts concerts, art exhibits, and more. French language classes are also offered for both children and adults.

Lango offers language instruction in Spanish and Mandarin for kids ages one to nine, using music, games, art, and stories. Visit the website for a current schedule and list of locations. Prices run about $8-$10 per class, depending on the program.

Summer camps are also available.

With over 20 years of experience, Philip Kampf ("Mr. Phil") has entertained hundreds of children with the joys and mysteries of magic.

Birthday party packages run from 30 minutes to 2-1/2 hours. The shorter shows involve magic acts, audience participation, and stand-up comedy, while the longer shows also include white doves, a bunny rabbit, a game of Follow the Leader, and Mr. Phil reading the birthday cards during the opening of presents.

Summer Magic Camp, for children ages nine and up, is held in Mr. Phil's studio, located at his residence on two acres, in Channelview (about 30 minutes from downtown Houston). One-week camps run all day, Mon-Fri 9am-4pm, for $500, which includes $250 worth of professional magic supplies. Classes are limited to six students, so they fill up quickly.

Parent-teacher groups can add Mr. Phil's Beginning Magic for Kids to your school's afterschool program for groups of 10-25 students, 2nd grade and up.

Mr. Phil's website also includes an online magic shop suitable for kids.

Southside Skate Park is an indoor skate park for boarders young and not-so-young. Everyone 15 and under must wear a helmet. Skateboarding lessons are also available.

Established in 1843, historical Teas Nursery now hosts a Kid's Gardening Club to involve children in learning about nature and gardening. Children get a chance to make crafts from natural materials, to learn about plants, seeds, and birds, and to be members in a club designed just for them with year-round activities.

Parents of younger children are welcome to stay in the class with their kids. Classes are usually held monthly.

TransforME Wellness and Training Studio offers cardio classes for kids ages five to 12, as well as childcare while parents exercise in pilates, yoga, or boot camp fitness program.
