The California Chess Club is an affiliate of the
United States Chess Federation.

Club activities include after school chess programs, summer and holiday soccer and chess camps, scholastic tournaments, a Saturday workshop for kids ages six to 14, and group and private lessons for all ages.

ChessWorks is owned by chess master Ivona Jezierska, and offers private chess lessons for children ages four and up (most kids start around age seven).

A summer chess program for kids ages five to 16 is offered on the campus of American Jewish University (formerly Univ. of Judaism), Auerbach Student Activities Center, 15600 Mulholland Drive, in Bel-Air. Half day (9am-12n or 1pm-4pm) or full day options are available.

The Encino Community Center is a Los Angeles City Department of Recreation & Parks facility offering a variety of youth programs, including camps, classes, and a co-op nursery school.

Dance and exercise classes! Mommy-and-me and Daddy-and-me! Performing arts and visual arts! Chess, cooking, and French! Karate, and gymastics, and tennis! Even etiquette and babysitter training!

Glendale Parks, Recreation and Community Services has put together an amazing program of classes for children and teens. It also runs an Off-Track Day Camp, an on-going, supervised camp, for any time your kids are out of school.

Most classes run for ten weeks, although a few special ones meet for two weeks. Check our calendar for special classes. Classes are available on weekdays and weekends; most meet for an hour. Classes meet at various locations in the Glendale Park System; most are at Brand Library.

Fees run from about $45 to $125. Late registration fee is $15.

This four-acre Park and Community Center offers a children's play area, picnic tables, a gymnasium, and one unlighted tennis court.

Glendale Parks' Recreation & Community Services has scheduled several youth programs at Maple Park. The Youth Chess Club meets one evening a week; check our calendar for more information about that, and other special activities.

Parks Creating Futures is a free drop-in afterschool program offered during the school year. A staff of CPR and First Aid certified recreation leaders offer general supervision and recreation. Four specialists rotate in and out to teach arts & crafts, science, and sports. [818.548.2788]
