Active Youth is a fitness center specifically designed to help young people fend off childhood obesity. Kids can choose from group classes, one-on-one training, and nutrition presentations as they learn the importance of incorporating healthy habits into their lifestyle.

Classes include dance, gymnastics, various different sports, and general fitness. There is also an active play drop-off program, in which kids are supervised by instructors for up to two hours in the open gym.

Active Youth Fitness offers a Parents' Night Out the first and third Friday of each month. Birthday packages are also available.

ChicosChicas offers music classes in Spanish for babies and toddlers and their caregivers. Children can get immersed in the sounds of the Spanish language, enjoying music and movement in a safe, clean, comfortable environment. No knowledge of Spanish is necessary.

Classes are scheduled once or twice per week.

Following the infamous incident at the end of 2007 in which a crane dropped a billboard through the roof, Cool Baby's facility is temporarily closed for renovations. Until further notice, many classes are being held at two temporary locations; call for details or see their online schedule, which is updated weekly.

Cool Baby offers enrichment classes for kids and babies in art, music, and yoga, as well as yoga for moms-to-be and new moms by Yoga Works trained teachers. The first pre-natal yoga class is always free. Other options include Abrakadoodle Art, music, Spanish, family circus, and a Daddy & Me Drum class.

There is a family lounge with a bright, spacious free play zone, full of well-made toys in natural materials; and the drop-in Art Splash Zone is fun for all ages. Stroller parking is available.

Custom birthday parties can be accommodated, with themes including yoga, circus, drum circles, and art.

The retail store features unusual items, like Ugly Dolls, bouquets of baby clothes, and products from around the world that give a portion of the proceeds to charity. There is a Putumayo listening station that kids can use, and this is the only place on the Westside to buy Entertaining Elephants kids' clothes. There's a great selection of books, too.

The Jewish Learning Academy is an educational facility run by the religious group Chabad. The JLA offers a program called Kreative Kids for young children, accommodating little ones up to four years. Classes in this program include Mommy and Me, Music and Movement, Art, Hebrew, and Fitness. Moms are invited to take classes about Judaism while the kids are in class.

Sibling of the Kids Klub in Pasadena , the center offers infant and pre-school care starting at six weeks old. Other Kids Klub programs include before and after school programs for school age children, evening and weekend care, and summer camps. Enrichment classes like karate, dance, and art are also available.

This six-week fitness program incorporates some of the most exciting kids equipment ever made. During the program, the participants also get their own KOR-KIDS pedometer to collect daily steps in a race across a map of the world.

Lemon Grove Recreation Center sits next to the Hollywood Freeway and offers a full spread of community classes, sports, a playground, and free batting cages. Classes include ballet, music, Mommy & Me, and karate.

The center also offers a highly affordable four-day per week preschool for about $55 per month. Its after school club picks kids up from local elementary schools.

La Pintoresca Library, a branch of the Pasadena Public Library system, was built in 1930 in the Spanish-Revival style and comes by its Spanish name ("the picturesque") honestly. The red-tiled roof and stucco structure give a fair hint to the beauty that awaits inside: Moorish-inspired chandeliers and beautiful woodwork. The library is situated within La Pintoresca Park.

The children's section is cozy, with small tables and chairs for reading and homework. Storytimes, book clubs, and homework help are offered regularly for children.

Bilingual Spanish-English offerings are bountiful here, as are special collections in African American history and literature. The library is the only branch to house a comic book collection, which includes books on the history and artwork of comics, cartooning, and animation.

The branch has a Foothill Employment and Training Center computer kiosk and hosts Pasadena READS, an adult literacy courses. It also houses a computer lab and offers free wireless internet access. The library serves as a community center for surrounding neighborhoods.

Play-n-Shape offers fitness classes for moms while their toddlers participate in a social-educational playgroup at local parks around Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Cheviot Hills, and Santa Monica.

The playgroup provides one teacher for every five tots, and the 50-minute moms' class a few yards away is limited to ten students.

Team FIT invites parents to drop off and get fit with its outdoor bootcamps operating at schools all over LA. The classes meet in school parking lots before heading out for an energizing and challenging hour. Classes are ongoing in Pasadena and can be started at other schools upon request.

The Zoom Room is a dog agility center offering after school classes in which kids can teach their dogs how to run through tunnels, jump hurdles, and climb over obstacles.

The parents' lounge area has WiFi, coffee, pinball, and a gift shop. The club also has periodic canine social events, like Doggie Disco.
