The enormous Edina Community Center houses numerous community information organizations, and hosts all manner of recreational classes and programming for toddlers, seniors, and everyone in between. HOURCAR is an interesting, economical, environmentally-friendly option for parents with driver's licenses, but no car, who wish to increase their mobility ... for parents who frequently feel like they're short a car, because of a nanny or au pair's needs, or the demands of a newly-licensed teen ... and for newly-relocated families who moved without a car, are here temporarily, or want to wait to decide whether one will be needed.

This car-sharing program, with pickup hubs in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, offers flat-rate and usage-based fee plans to drivers who have had licenses for at least five years, and have relatively clean records. HOURCAR takes care of insurance, maintenance, and even fuel for its fleet; members reserve cars by phone or online, and in effect, pay for car ownership only when they need it.
