One of the area's hidden gems, Capehart Park offers some of the best recreation opportunities for families.

Located at the end of a residential street, the entrance to the park's offices and classrooms features a beautiful outdoor butterfly garden. Metal trellises hold the climbing vines, plants, and flowers that attract a wide-range of butterflies, and colorful metal butterflies decorate the garden (just in case no live versions are nearby).

Meeting rooms with a kitchen and picnic pavilions are available to rent, and there are plenty of places to just relax in the shade throughout the park. The building's overhang patio features a few large metal butterfly chairs, and tables with built-in checkerboards.

The highlights of the park are the three playgrounds. There are two large traditional playgrounds, one for older children and a separate tot lot with lower slides and smaller equipment. Both play sets are completely shaded by large overhead canopies. The tot lot features a padded floor, while the main play set has a combination of padding and wood chip base.

The third playground is the seasonal splash pad, a large in-ground water fountain with jets that rotate between bubbling streams to geyser sprays. Open March through October, this is by far the favorite location during summer months for kids of all ages. Restrooms are located inside the park's main building, and we recommend wearing water shoes inside and around the area.

The park also offers a walking/running track surrounded by trees, a small basketball court, and vending machines. Kids can also look to the skies as planes descend into the Orlando International Airport just a few miles away.

The City of Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Deptartment oversees recreation programs, park facilities, and a variety of classes for kids of all ages.

The Parks Division manages more than 30 parks, ball fields, 16 tennis courts, playgrounds, 3/4 of a mile of lakefront property, a greenhouse, a nursery, 160 acres of open space, a cemetery, and recreation facilities. The Recreation team oversees Aquatics programs and Community Center facilities, along with recreation, athletic programs, and special events.

Classes: The department offers a number of classes, including special classes for preschoolers, school aged children, youth athletics, and home school programs.
