Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center offers indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an ice-rink for hockey and skating, tennis, a variety of field sports, racquetball, wallyball, specialty classes, a skate park, a nursery and more. The outdoor pool is the hottest ticket in town during the summer (very crowded). It's a big hit with young children thanks to its very large zero-depth entry (gradual increase in depth) and pool playground; older children enjoy the impressive water slides. Please check the schedule or call the center for more information. There is no charge to members; non-member youth (ages three to 17) and seniors pay $4, adults pay $5. Monday and Friday nights are Family Nights - bring your whole family and pay only $16 for up to six immediate family members. If you have a group of seven or more, you can get a group rate of $3.25 per person if you reserve in advance. The indoor pool has the same pricing. Over a dozen different swimming classes are offered year-round for children ages three to five. Discounts are available if enrolling more than one child. Private lessons are not scheduled at the center, though arrangements can be made to use the pool for private lessons. Puck practice, hockey lessons and hockey leagues are all geared to get you as close to the NHL as possible. Puck practice is $5 per player (free for goalies) and is scheduled by age groups. Please check the schedule or call the center for more information. Hockey lessons are offered year round for children ages five to 16. Basic skating skills are a pre-requisite for these classes. Most equipment is available from the skate rental room free of charge during class time. Students are to provide their own shin guards, elbow pads, and hockey gloves. Classes consist of 10 to 14 children, and the cost is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. A discount is available if enrolling more than one child. To join a hockey league, please contact the coordinator for the group you are interested in joining. The year-round ice-skating rink offers open ice-skating, skating lessons and figure skating clubs. Open ice-skating is a very popular weekend outing for all ages. Check the schedule or call the center for more information. There is no charge to members; non-member youth (ages four to 17) and seniors pay $4.50; adults pay $5. Skate rentals are included with the nonmember pricing and for premium members; basic members pay $1.50 for skate rentals. If you have a group of seven or more, you can get a group rate of $4 per person, including skate rentals, with advance reservations. The Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center follows the US Figure Skating Association's Skate with US program, so your youngster has a better chance of making it to the Olympics! Classes are offered to ages four and up in groups of eight to 12 students. Members pay $45 for six half-hour lessons, or $50 for non-members. A $1 discount is applied if more than one child is enrolled. Private ice skating lessons can be scheduled at the center's front office. Fill out a private lesson request form. The form is given to the requested coach or is used to match the student up with a coach. For more information about private lessons, call 801.943.3190 ex 162. The outdoor tennis courts are a great way to spend the cool Salt Lake summer evenings. Please call the main office for lessons or to make a reservation. No charge to members and $2 for non-members to use the courts. A wonderful selection of field sports are offered here, including baseball, football, lacrosse, and soccer, all at various levels. For more information, contact the coordinator of the sport you are interested in joining. Racquetball and Wallyball courts can be rented by the hour Mon-Fri 5am-10pm; Sat 6am-9:30pm; and Sun 12n-5pm. Please call for pricing as the cost structure is very complex. A variety of specialty classes, including Babysitting, Boy Scout Night, Karate, Kindermusik, Lifeguard Training, and more are offered at the center. To sign up for a class, contact the coordinator for class you are interested in joining. The nursery is open Mon-Thu 8am-8pm and Fri 8am-4pm (closed Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays). Parents must be participating in an activity at the rec center while their children are at the nursery. Cost is $1.50/hour per child for kids ages two to eight, or $2/hour for children under 24 months. No visit may exceed two hours. During the summer months, children ages nine to 12 can participate in the Summer Kids Club on weekdays from 9am to 1pm. Supervised activities include basketball, crafts, game tables, and board games. Children are welcome to come and go as they please during the Kids Club. The club is free to members. Many programs are run through Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation, but are held at Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center. This recreation center includes over 4,000 square feet of state-of-the-art fitness equipment, an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, steam and sauna rooms located in each locker area, a drop-in day care room, five racquetball courts, aerobics and dance studios, and a small gymnasium. There are many youth classes offered throughout the year such as dance, tumbling, drawing, music, and martial arts. A babysitting training class is offered to kids ages 11 and up. Swim lessons for any skill level are taught throughout the year. A lot of the classes/programs are scheduled during the week in the after school hours. A wide variety of youth sports leagues, camps, and clinics are also available. These leagues/clinics include Jr. Jazz basketball, indoor/outdoor soccer, tee-ball/coach pitch baseball, NFL flag football, tennis, track, and golf. There are also swim teams for ages five and up. Check online for details on class or program dates and for information about registration for any of the happenings at the Marv Jenson Fitness and Recreation Center. Prices for the fitness center vary according to usage. Daily rates are $10 for a family (up to eight people), $4 for adults (16 and over), $3 for teens (13-15) & seniors, $2 for youth (4-12), and $1 for children under the age of four. Monthly rates start at $25 for individuals, and $50 for a family. There are also yearly memberships available that start at $195 for an individual. The 252-bed facility is equipped and staffed to treat children with complex illness and injury. The Primary Children's Medical Center website provides information about specific services available as well as a list of the medical staff that serves the hospital. It also gives a wealth of information about child health and safety - and even has a KidsCare Online page which provides information about what to do for a child's common symptoms and injuries when the doctor's office is closed. Many classes are offered by Primary Children's Medical Center, for both kids and parents. Some classes for parents include Infant and Child CPR, Rescue Breathing, Warning Signs of a Heart Attack, Injury Prevention, and Childproofing Your Home. Kid's classes include Be a Super Sitter, Family Food Fitness, and Pre-Surgery Class. Most classes cost about $15. Call the Education Department at 801.662.3500 for information or to sign up for classes. To register for Pre-Surgery Class, which is free, call 801.662.2824. To ensure children are buckled safely in cars, Primary Children's Medical Center offers free car seat inspection clinics on weekdays, by appointment only. A variety of aquatic programs are offered, from swim lessons, to merit badge classes, to swim teams, and more. An indoor 32-foot-tall water slide is fun for all thrill seekers in the family. Call for open plunge times. Other features of the West Valley Family Fitness Center include an indoor climbing wall, a gymnasium, a party room, racquetball courts, and a snack bar. A large number of fitness classes are offered throughout the year including step, pilates, yoga, kickboxing, hip-hop cardio, cycling, etc. This fitness center caters to every age group, with classes and programs for adults, teens, and children from tiny toddlers to pre-teens. There is a licensed child care facility on-site for parents who wish to drop their children (ages six weeks to six years) off while working out. The cost is $2/hour, with a maximum of two hours. The child care center is open Monday-Thursday 8am-8pm and Friday 8am-4:30pm. Another option for kids of all ages is a large Edutainment Play Center.
